  • Our Story

WORNSTAR® was originally conceived in 2002 and officially launched on September 4, 2009. Founded by rock n roll stylist and designer Sylvia Jensen and rock n roll art director, designer and photographer Stephen Jensen. The purpose was to develop a brand that offered striking rock n roll inspired graphic designed clothing along with custom made limited edition stage clothing. But it was more than just making clothing that looked good, they also wanted to make clothing that was high quality and comfortable to wear.

    FUELED BY ROCK N ROLL™
Stephen Jensen is no stranger to rock n roll and has lived on all sides of the industry. He played guitar in bands throughout the late 1980s-early 1990s playing his first gig at age 17 at the world famous Limelight in Chicago. He went on to sign his first record deal, appear in two music videos that appeared on MTVs Headbanger’s Ball, and toured the US all before he turned 20. Stephen has always had a passion for the mixture of visual arts and music. In the early 1990s, he stepped away from performing focusing on his talent for graphic design and photography for which he received his bachelor’s degree. He went on to launch his own entertainment design and photography company, F3 Studios. Stephen has created scores of album covers and packaging for many rock, country, jazz, blues, and hip hop artists, including album cover and artwork for the 2014 Grammy® Award Winning album "Step Back" by Johnny Winter. Continuing with the connection of visual art and music, Stephen began working with several musical instrument manufacturers designing ads, catalogs, merchandise, and products. In 2004, he started working closely with Dean Guitars and designed his first guitar for Dimebag Darrell of Pantera fame. Stephen would go on to design some of the most iconic and top selling guitars for Dimebag, Dave Mustaine, Michael Schenker, Leslie West, Zakk Wylde, Kerry King, Jerry Cantrell, Zoltan Bathory, George Lynch, Trent Reznor, Rik Emmett, Corey Beaulieu, Matt Heafy, Rudolf Schenker, Michael Angelo Batio, and many others. He has also worked as an art director and designer for Stern Pinball responsible for designing games for AC/DC, Metallica, Led Zeppelin, The Walking Dead, Marvel's Avengers, and several others. Stephen has a strong branding and marketing background and has helped to rebrand and launch some of the best brands in the music industry.

Sylvia Jensen had always had a passion to create and taught herself to sew at a very young age by watching her godmother who was a master seamstress. She was always a fan of rock n roll and rock n roll fashion and had a passion for the visuals of some of the biggest theatrical rock bands. In middle school she began crafting her own clothing. Sylvia met Stephen when they were still teens in high school and became casual friends always bumping into one another at rock shows throughout Chicago. They began to spend a lot more time together and were married in 1994. Sylvia worked along side Stephen at F3 Studios and helped with set design, prop design, photo styling, and wardrobe styling for many of the album covers and artists that they worked for. Many of the artists took interest in Sylvia’s work on set and requested buying some of the pieces that she styled, altered, or created for the photo shoots.

With the success of Stephen’s guitar designs and having designed merchandise for several of the companies and artists that he was working with, combined with the attention that Sylvia’s clothing design and styling, they thought it would be great to offer this as an extension to F3 Studios. Thus, the original concept that would go on to become Wornstar Clothing was born. They slowly began to develop the idea of a rock n roll brand that featured graphic designed printed clothing along with one-of-a-kind and limited stage clothing. They wanted to create a line that was the best quality they could produce and sought out the best quality materials and best quality printing to help bring their concept to life. The idea was that they wanted clothing that would be comfortable to wear and end up being that favorite shirt that felt worn in, like it was a part of you. Having seen the poor quality of many mass produced band merchandise, they wanted to make sure that quality was their main priority. So in 2009, they launched with one t-shirt design selling at the local off-road races. When they sold out of their first run and people were raving about the quality demanding more, they knew that they were on to something. Wornstar Clothing had quickly gained the attention of their existing clients and has grown into one of the fastest growing clothing companies in rock n roll. Wornstar Clothing is constantly looking to grow and evolve, always trying to make their product better.

    WORN IN TO WEAR OUT™
